20 Grams Cafe

20 Grams Cafe is a little burger joint that operates above the Jubilee grocery store over on West Street in Greenpoint. It became popular because they sell burgers for just $2. Specifically, Hamburgers for $2.15 and cheeseburgers for $2.55. How do they do it? It’s basically a 2 or 3 ounce patty with sliced onions, similar to the Motz smash burger at Hamburger America, only smaller and cheaper, with less of a toasty bun.

I liked it so much I went back the next day and ate two more. The tots are also really good, and you get a bunch for just $3.

For the price, this place can not be beat.

Crazy Burger

First, check out my Ride & Review HERE:

Crazy Burger is a brand new smash burger joint on Avenue C at 12th Street. Their double cheeseburger is just $9.50 and it tastes like a cross between a White Castle slider and a Big Mac.

The fries are the batter-fried style, with that great crisp on the outside of each log.

Great food at a great price. I will definitely be back.

Burgers on B

First, check out my Ride & Review video HERE:

This newly opened smash burger joint offers up a nice variety of smash style burgers (regular, Oklahoma, etc) at really great prices ($6 for a single).

My wife and I tried a regular double smash and some fries.

The fries were a little soggy, but the burger was somewhere between good and great. I would definitely go back and try some more stuff, especially their shakes.

Haswell Green’s

having gone to Haswell Green’s several times for cocktails over the years, I finally made it over there to try the food. I have to say: the burger matches the quality of the cocktails: AWESOME!

It’s a double smash patty burger on a potato bun with pickles, cheese and special sauce. Very simple, but really well executed. Go give it a shot. I actually think this might be my favorite burger in that part of town. Better than Black Tap, all the steakhouses nearby, and any other bar or fast food joint slinging burgers for theater patrons.

The boneless wings pork+veal meatballs are decent as well.

But make sure you try some of their cocktails. Really nicely crafted.

Smashed

Smashed is a new smash burger joint on the lower east side. They just opened four days ago. My wife and I stopped by to try a few items out. We went with the classic double and the blue cheese and bacon burger.

I was blown away by the flavors and the quality. This joint uses fresh beef, and they grind their own burgers in house.

The burgers were perfect in every way. Great toast on the bun, perfect crisp on the patty, great melt on the cheeses, nicely prepared griddled onions, and a killer, unique sauce that really puts the “special” back in “special sauce,” because these days everyone is really just using thousand island dressing. That’s lame.

I preferred the classic double, since the meat really shines there. I can’t wait to go back and try their rendition of a smashed Big Mac.

And the fries? Excellent as well. But I’m looking to try their smashed potatoes on my next trip.
